How to use strengths to create a good mood

If your team needs quick boost of self-confidence and you’d like to see a smile on everyone’s face, here’s what you can do.
  1. Give everyone a print-out of the VIA Character Strengths.
  2. Ask them to take a moment to read through and select the 5 strengths that evoke a feeling of “that’s me”. Which are the ones you couldn’t live without?
  3. Ask team members to share what strengths they see in each other. Ask them to name the strength and the situation where they saw it come to life.
The full exercise just takes 20 minutes – or longer if you find the conversation fruitful. You’ll notice a shift in the mood in the room and how people’s faces light up a little.
